Nancy was born in Elkins, West Virginia on June 28, 1935 to Alta Jeanne Runner DiBacco and Sabbatino Pasquale DiBacco, the second of seven children. She moved to Asheville in 1956 where she met Asheville native W. Ron Fagan, Sr., her husband of 53 years. They made Asheville their home for 51 years, living and raising their three children there together. The final years of her life were lived out with her husband Ron by her side at Cherry Springs Village in Hendersonville, NC.
